Not that this is very surprising unfortunately, but apparently there is a “Socialists” for Barack Obama group.More specifically the group is called Marxists/Socialists/Communists for Obama and it Is even a part of the official barackobama.com web site. Though, it is not an actual “official” arm of the Obama for President campaign, people are allowed to sign-up and create user accounts at the official campaign website of Barack Obama — through a feature at my.barackobama.com, they can set up profiles, raise money for the campaign and post blogs.

According to the group:

This group is for self-proclaimed Marxists/Communists/Socialists for the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency. By no means is he a true Marxist, but under Karl Marx’s writings we are to support the party with the best interests of the mobilization of the proletariat. Though the Democratic Socialists of America or the Communist Patty [sic] of America may have more Socialististic [sic] values, it is pointless to vote for these candidates due to the fact that there is virutally [sic] no chance they will be elected on a National level. The members of this group are not Leninists, Stalinists, etc. and do not support or condone the actions of North Korea, China, Cuba or any other self-procalimed [sic]”Marxist States.” They do not in anyway represent the Marxist philosophy nor do they represent Socialism/ Communsim. [sic] We support Barack Obama because he knows what is best for the people!

It seems that the site was set up by an impressionable youngster, but I’d have to say that it says a lot about a candidate — the type of supporters that he attracts as well as the fact that this group has been allowed to be up for quite a few months now.

I have finally done it. I’ve put my money where my proverbial mouth is — or in my case where my heart is — and for the first time in my adult life, I have made a monetary contribution to a political candidate or cause. I have made a donation to the campaign of Fred Thompson.

For the first time since I have been of voting age, have I found a candidate that truly inspires me and gives me hope that the movement started by Mr. Conservative Barry Goldwater in the 1960’s and culminated when we as a nation, elected the next man to hold the title of Mr. Conservative, Ronald Reagan — is still strong and flourishing.

Fred Dalton Thompson is the only man currently seeking our faith in him to hold the office of President of The United States who has the right to now claim the mantle of the new, Mr. Conservative.

I urge everyone who wants to see a return to the principles of our founding fathers and truly believes that the answers to all that ails us as a nation are the core, proven and time-tested truths of self-governance, free markets, and the rule of law — to follow my lead and donate to the Fred Thompson campaign.
